Very nice man... a sunrise or sunset with something in the foreground is the perfect application of HDR. Finding a camera that can bracket (auto or manually) more than two stops is great too. The auto bracketing is only that necessary with things that are moving a little or if you're going to hand-hold it. Once I hit the shutter button, I can capture the three shots in about 1.5 seconds. The other option that you might want to try with your D40 is making HDR from RAW files - you only need one. I'll put up a demo about that sometime soon.

That's a sweet HDR.

I got up early the other morning and took some shots of the sunrise from Kerry Park. I decided to give the whole HDR thing a try. Unfortunately my D40 doesn't do auto bracketing but I managed to pull it off manually. I finally got around to processing it last night and was pretty happy with the results:

I used Photomatix for the merge but played with the settings a bit to keep things from looking too crazy and over-the-top. Then did some final cleanup in Photoshop.
